Week dos!!!
HEY GUYS!! Another week has gone by at the CCM!! This one went by fast and slow at the same time haha. 2 weeks down, 4 more to go!!
On Thursdays here my district gets to do SERVICE!! Haha it was actually pretty fun to get a break from class and to WEAR NORMAL CLOTHES!! We got to clean the comedor this week :) all the Hispanic workers in the CCM are soooo sweet and I am so thankful for all they do! Making food and cleaning the cafeteria for all the missionaries here is hard work!
One Elder in my district, Elder Blunt, went home this last week bc of health issues:( It was super sad actually because our whole district has gotten sooo close in just 2 weeks and it feels weird without him. Now we have MORE Hermanas than Elders!! I actually really love my district though! It’s so cool how perfect our group works together and how we all contribute something different. I know we were all put together for a reason and I have learned A LOT from their examples. I also know I was put with my companion for a reason!! Hermana Hughes makes the mission life fun and we literally laugh all the time!
This week Spanish was a little overwhelming at times with new grammar and starting the intermediate core. Our days in class are long and kinda reminds me of school. And a lot is expected out of us. But one thing my district talked about is that we are not here to be comfortable. We are here to push ourselves, work hard, and serve the Lord. When I get stressed out about the language I just have to remind myself that I’m not learning it for myself but for the people of Salta and I can always turn to my Savior for help! I know ALL things are possible through Jesus Christ.
My first (real) Sunday here was awesome!! Probably my new favorite day of the week, after Pday lol. It’s so great bc we get a break from Spanish classes and get to study the gospel like all day!! It’s the BEST!! This past Sunday we got to listen to a devotional given in 2011 by Elder Holland that’s only shown in the MTC to missionaries. It was AMAZING and so powerful!! The Spirit was so strong when we watched it! He basically gave specific direction and counsel to missionaries and also related our purpose as missionaries to that of Jesus’ apostles after He died. We are all here in the CCM serving missions because we LOVE Jesus Christ! So our commandment from the Savior is the same that He gave His apostles after He died. We must feed His sheep and spread His gospel. Elder Holland emphasized how this call to share the great joy and happiness of the gospel of Jesus Christ, begins now with our missions but will continue for the rest of our lives. We don’t have to be missionaries in order to live the gospel and be disciples of Christ!
We also talked a lot on Sunday about the blessing of the Book of Mormon in our lives. I feel like it has taken on an entire now meaning in my life as a missionary because it is ESSENTIAL to teaching the gospel. I am SO grateful for the restoration of the church through the prophet Joseph Smith. Then on Tuesday we had the opportunity to listen to a devotional by Elder Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, broadcast live from the Provo MTC!! It was broadcasted to 10 other international MTCs! One thing that Elder Cook emphasized was the importance of bearing a powerful witness and testimony of the Book of Mormon with those we teach!! We can make it come alive to others by sharing that is a 1000 year history and record of the children of God on the American continent. I feel especially privileged and blessed to get to share this precious book with the children of God in South America! It has changed my life!
It was sad this week having to say goodbye to all the people who are in week 6 of the CCM! One of my favorite parts of being here with hundreds of other missionaries is the social aspect! Hermana Hughes and I made a lot of friends who were in week 6 and sadly they left on Monday:( but esta bien. Every week those in week 6 leave on Mondays or Tuesdays but new missionaries come here on Tuesdays.
Today (on my pday) we got to go to the Mexico City temple!! AHHH it was SOOO BEAUTIFUL!! After working in the temple before my mission I’ve really missed it! It was so peaceful inside and beautiful! The Mexico City temple is about an hour away from the CCM, so it was also nice getting to see some of the city. Because the CCM is in the middle of the city we can always hear sounds like fireworks, music, and gunshots (???) while we’re in class. The city is very busy and there’s tons going on! I am grateful we had the opportunity to go to the temple to make covenants with God.
Anyways I hope you guys all had a great week!! Miss & love you all!! The church is true and I am so happy it is my job to share it with others!!
Love,
