Looking for fruit and people

Hey y'all -another week has come and gone!! And tan rapido!!! Just out here living my best life serving the Lord in Argentina!!

This week was de diez!! Haha I know I say that like every week but this time I really mean it!! lol

On Wednesday we had exchanges with the STLs in Mosconi so both of them came to work with us! It's always a good time getting to work with other missionaries and learn from their experiences in the mission, the way they teach and interact with people. I was able to work with Hna Jensen from Arizona and she is the sweetest! She has a year in the mission and has a contagious excitement/energy por la obra misional! I definitely learned some new ways to teach lessons with her and it was fun getting to be with another gringa!! Except she actually looks like a gringa (tall, blond haired, blue eyed) so we got a lot more stares in the street than normal :)

This week we also found some new people and FRUIT in unexpected places. Haha I don't know if before I was just blind or wasn't paying attention, but we actually have a TON of fruit that grows on the trees here in Mosconi! And my companion loves to stop and collect them. Haha literally I'll be like walking on the street and trying to have a conversation and look back and she's like 15 feet behind me picking fruit in the trees. So far we´ve been able to collect a lot of mangoes, limes, avocado, guava, and grapefruit that make the best smoothies!! And for freeeeee woohoo!!

We also found some new PEOPLE in unexpected places - including Luciana and her family!! Luciana is this 13 year old girl who we contacted one day in the calle. We could tell she had great potential when we met her and put a baptismal date with her in the contact! But, when we returned to her house for our follow up appointment her mom was there and was on the verge of tears. Luciana lives basically in a one room shack made of wood and tarp on the edge of Mosconi with her 3 younger siblings, mom, and her mom's boyfriend. I've met a lot of people here in Mosconi who are poor and don't have very much but never quite as poor and humble as Luciana. Her mom was stressed when we met her because the rain and wind from the storm the night before had almost overtaken their home. Their clothes and things were scattered everywhere and all wet and muddy from the rain. It was a heartbreaking sight. We of course offered to help and began to pick up clothes and toys out of the grass and trees and help Lucresia (Luciana´s mom) rearrange the roof so it wouldn't blow away. Not to mention, one of Luciana's sisters who is only 3 years old doesn't have an arm. They said she lost it in a washing machine (although I'm not really sure how...). After helping them clean up their house we began to teach Luciana, her sisters, and Lucresia, and the spirit was so strong. Their family obviously needs help in many ways, but ultimately the BEST way to help them is to teach them the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. We left a Book of Mormon with them and since then Luciana has been reading and eager to learn more!!

One thing we also tried focusing on this past week was working with the members of Mosconi. They are the key to our success in la obra misional and we need their help, ESPECIALLY Mosconi. We've begun helping out with the weekly branch noche de hogar (family home evening) and visiting more less actives and recent converts. President Orquera received a revelation and challenged all of the missionaries in my mission to try to visit at least 20 menos activo families and prepare them to go to the temple! Very soon we will have our own temple here in Salta!!!

This past Sunday was a little discouraging before church because literally NONE of our investigators were answering their phones or doors to come with us to church. We thought we weren't going to have anyone at church :( But turned out that a lot of members brought their friends and family members who aren't members and we ended up having 7 new people and a lot of less active members there!! IT WAS THE BEST!!

I have a strong testimony that is the Lord's restored church with the fullness of the gospel. It is such a privilege to get to do His work here in Mosconi!!

Have a good week!!

con amor,
Hna Tate
