milagros con mi madrastra!!
Hey y'all!!
Wow it's been a while since I've said y'all - I
need to go back to Texas ASAP!! lol jk I'm having wayyyy too much fun in
Argentina!! Feliz Cumpleaños to Maddie!! Wish I could have been there to
celebrate with you but I hope you got to eat alot of torta y helado with Nate
:)
This week was awesome!! My new companion and madrastra
(stepmother = companion after my trainer/mom) is Hna Quequezana and she is the
BEST!! She's from Peru and has about 9 months in the mission. It's definitely
different being with a Latina companion than a Gringa!! She's already helped me
A TON with my Español and I am trying to teach her a little English!!
Its actually pretty fun and thankfully she has a lot of patience with me
and is willing to explain new words and phrases to me until I understand. She has
also shown me by her example how to really love and show interest in our
people!!
It's been cool to also see what a change in a new companion
and fresh pair of eyes and perspective can do to the work. We have been able to
develop a lot of relationships with new people and members that I didn't know
that well before!! This past semana we had several people accept fechas for
baptism and truly saw plenty of mini miracles everyday!!
For starters, I didn't get us (too) lost!! Haha even though
I have been here for almost 3 months, I'm still pretty terrible with directions
and was scared to have to lead Mosconi. But thankfully this is the Lord's work
and not mine and por eso the spirit really guiding to every house and person
that we needed to meet and visit in order to find sus escogidos!!!
One day we were looking for the house of a reference that
some other elders in our zone gave us but the address they gave us was in a
part of Mosconi I had never been to before. Well, we began asking around and
were led to street a few blocks away. We weren't sure if this was the right
street so we approached some people walking on the calle behind us and they
turned out to be the references we were looking for!! Milagro!! Their names are
Ulises and Niem and they are 10 and 11 years old. The elders gave us their name
as references because they had been going to church in their area with their
aunt but have not been baptized and live here in Mosconi!! And WOW they are
some of the cutest and smartest kids I have ever met!! They accepted a fecha
bautismal on the day we met them!! WAHOO!!
We also had a milagro en finding another investigator
Michaela. We went to visit the house of a member family se llama the Chacomas
to ask them about a less active member. When we went there they had one of
their friends named Michaela staying with them, so naturally as missionaries we
asked if she was a member and the Chacomas said no - shes very Catholic. Haha
well Hna Quequezana es una capa and literally only said okay we can work with
that and then we had to leave very quickly to make it to our lunch appointment
on time. Well after 5 minutes of walking outside Carolina Chacoma ran after us
and said that Michaela decided she wanted to be baptized en nuestra iglesia!!
So we set a fecha bautismal with her literally like 15 minutes after we met her
without even needing to extend the invitation ourselves!! She asked us to be
baptized!!! Haha that is like every missionary's dream pregunta!! BENDICIONES!!
So far Hna Quequezana really has taught me not only how to
teach the gospel, but live the gospel by serving and loving the people. I also
feel like I am getting more of an opportunity to immerse myself in her culture
of Peru and of course of Argentina! This week we met a lot of special people
and I am excited to be able to see their progress in these next couple of
weeks!!
I know that when we really try our best, not only to learn
of Christ but actually live the way Christ would live- especially in the
service of others we can bring joy to the world and feel unlimited joy
ourselves!! May we all be a little more Christlike this week!! Espero que
ustedes tengan una linda semana!! Les amo y extraño!
Con amor,
Hna Tate
Hna Quequezana - the best madrastra!!
