Broken AC, homeless ppl, and wisdom teeth

 What's up y'all!!

Another week down here in Southern California :) Our week was actually pretty awesome and I couldn't be happier or more grateful to be a missionary! We actually had some small miracles and random things happen this week so it went by pretty fast!

First off we finally decided to stop teaching a lot of our people that weren't progressing in our teaching pool. Dropping people on my mission has always been a struggle for me because some people have SO MUCH potential and we develop really strong friendships with them. And obviously with COVID we can't go out and find new investigators just as easily as we did before to replace them. But when we stop teaching people who aren't ready, it can also be an act of faith. Faith that the Lord will provide us with new people to teach who ARE ready to change. And that's exactly what happened this week!

We received a self referral!! A couple of months ago when our mission first started putting ads out on Facebook we would get referrals pretty consistently every week (of course it was always a hit or miss whether they were actually legit) but then we stopped getting them for the past couple of weeks. But on Tuesday this lady named Sobedy requested a meeting with us!! She told us she never really had a relationship to God her whole life and has been on her own since she was 16, but recently had a near death experience in surgery and afterwards felt she was receiving signs from God that she should develop a relationship with him. So obviously we were SUPER STOKED and explained who our Heavenly Father is and how He has a plan for each and every one of us. It's been so long since I've taught someone who didn't already have deeply rooted religious beliefs so it was pretty exciting! She is awesome and has so much potential!!

We also received a member referral named Sonia who is so sweet and receptive to the Restoration! Sadly, she doesn't live in our area. At first I was pretty bummed that we were going to have to stop teaching her and let other missionaries teach her, but then I realized that there really is nothing to be sad about! I got to play a part in bringing her unto Christ and her progression in the gospel will take place no matter if I or other missionaries teach her!! Missionary work is a group effort that really takes member and missionary unity!! We also have been teaching a guy named Jose who was taught by missionaries in Anaheim, but then he moved into our area and he is super solid! Anyways, this week I learned that when we take a step of faith into the unknown and trust in the Lord, like we did in dropping people, the Lord will bless us abundantly in return!!

The elders in our ward also had a baptism!! And we got to watch it over Zoom with Felipa!! Even though baptisms are a little different to experience over technology, the spirit is still just as strong and it was super cool to get to experience that with her!!

Also some random things that happened this week- our AC broke... I think because we may have overrun it until it froze over... oops. But it's honestly a miracle we have all survived this week as our apartment feels just like it does outside which is like 109 degrees. Gotta love southern California summers.

Then we had a run in with another homeless lady here at the church building. Hna Rawlings and I were just pulling up to the church to do our routine afternoon calls and lessons when this lady approached our car. She had wheeled her suitcase up to the church door and began to tell us her life story. It was a pretty sad story to hear so we gave her our box of Domino's pizza that a member had given us and let her talk with the elders.

Also today my comp got her wisdom teeth out!! If I could attach videos of her after the surgery I would because she was hilarious! So that was definitely the highlight of our p-day. And I have never felt more like a mom driving her around to appointments and giving her medicine and taking the gauze out of her mouth. Haha good thing she's the best hijita.

Anyways I hope y'all are doing great and wearing your masks!! Buena suerte to all those going back to school today!!

Con amor,
Hna Tate
