The one where she won musical chairs
Hey guys!!
Haha since it has only been about 3 days since I sent my last weekly update, this one won't be too long!
First off, I had an awesome Thanksgiving!! Haha it was nice this year to actually be in a country that celebrates the holiday (lol throwback to Argentina) and to be serving here in El Monte! All the missionaries in our ward were invited to eat dinner with bishop and his family, the Serrano family, and the Perea family. It was very kind of them to invite us and make us feel at home while we are all away from home and missing our families. We all ate some delicious food (it was a mix of traditional Thanksgiving food and Hispanic food) and then went around the room and gave thanks. I gave thanks for everything that has happened this year, the good, the bad and everything in between. I would not be where I am today and have met everyone I've met and learned everything I've learned if it weren't for the trials of this year!! And I know that is ALL thanks to Heavenly Father and His wonderful and perfect plan for me and every single one of His children.
Afterwards we all played musical chairs, and I won! Sooo that was definitely the highlight of the night.
This week we also went on exchanges with the sisters we live with! I got to go to Valleyview with Sister Shirts, which is basically the same area we cover except english. It was really fun to learn from her and meet some people in their ward and teaching pool! I met their friend Yesenia who will get baptized this Saturday and she is amazing!! I don't know if I've ever met someone more prepared and willing to accept the gospel! We taught her the Word of Wisdom which is something most people have difficulty understanding and she was 100% on board!! She's willing to give up her morning cup of coffee to obey this commandment! I know that whatever the commandment may be the Lord will always provide a way for us to keep it if we have the true desires to follow him! It's been neat as a missionary to see people come to that realization themselves and make the sacrifices necessary in order to be obedient the Lord's commandments.
We also had an MLC meeting and received a lot of revelation as a mission and for our zone! MLC meetings are always so uplifting as the spirit is always so strong and present to give us the ideas and motivation necessary to raise the vision of our mission! One concept that really stood out to me was that we always need to being willing to ADJUST according to the impressions of the spirit! Yielding to the guidance of him constantly will enable us to be servants aligned with the will of our Heavenly Father!
We also had some awesome lessons this weekend with our friend Manuela! Even though we only recently started teaching her, we can already see she has the sincere desires to follow Jesus Christ! She also invited her son to one of our lessons and that seemed to be a game changer for her to have her family growing closer to God with her. She accepted the invitation to be baptized so hopefully she will continue to progress towards that goal!!
We also have been consistently teaching our friend Jose and introduced him to the Book of Mormon this week!! At first it was a little difficult for him to grasp the importance of our message because religion just hasn't been an important factor in his life for a long time, but he has actually really made some progress lately!! We read together in the introduction to the Book of Mormon and explained how this book really can CHANGE his life. Bearing simple testimony of the power of the Book of Mormon really invited the spirit into our lesson and towards the end he opened up about his own personal struggles in his relationship with God. We helped him understand that God is very aware of him and while he may not always answer our prayers in the ways we want, He does listen and will answer them according to His wisdom and will. I know that to be true more than anything especially right now in my life. We can grow our trust in Heavenly Father exponentially when we have the faith NOT to be healed, or when we trust in Heavenly Father enough to let Him answer our prayers according to His timing and will, whatever they may be.
Altogether I know that this church is true and that this is His great work! Hope you all have a great week!!
Con amor,
Hna Tate
